 Best Natural Hair Cleansers

1.Soapnut Berries (or Reetha)

We all have heard about Reetha, as it has been used in our country for ages. Reetha contains natural detergents called saponins that act as a wonderful hair cleanser.

Reetha is known to add bulk and shine to the hair strands, thus making the hair feel thicker and smoother. With the added advantage of having antifungal and anti-bacterial properties, Reetha works well in combating against dandruff.

Reetha Hair Cleanser: You can make a decoction using Reetha, but that won’t be as effective as using the Reetha powder. You can make a perfect hair cleanser using the reetha powder by following the steps mentioned below:

  • Take Reetha powder (2 Tablespoons) in a small bowl
  • Add sufficient amount of hot water to form a running paste
  • Rest this paste for around 10 minutes
  • Apply this paste on the hair & scalp and massage for few minutes
  • Now, let the paste rest on the scalp for around 5 minutes
  • Rinse thoroughly with water

NOTE 1: You can repeat this process if required. Reetha has seldom used alone, as it has a drying effect on the hair. To combat this problem Shikakai is also added to the mixture.

NOTE 2: If you have curly or long hairs, wash the hair thoroughly as the paste can stick with the hairs.

To increase the potency of the mixture, you can also add following herbs to the prepared mixture of Reetha and Shikakai: hibiscus flower (detangling of hair), amla (conditioning of the hair), lavender (scalp balancing), orange peel (adds shine to the hair), Brahmi (rejuvenating the hair), licorice (conditioning), or neem (antiseptic).

This paste works best for each and every hair type

2.Shikakai

Shikakai is one of the best natural hair cleaners. It has the unique property of cleaning the hair without removing the natural oils present in them. The hair conditioning properties of the Shikakai makes the hair soft, shiny and bouncy.

Shikakai also balances the pH of the scalp, thus making it free from the effects of dandruff. With the added nourishing qualities present in them, Shikakai strengthens the roots of the hair and makes them strong and healthy.

Shikakai Hair Cleanser: You can use it to make a decoction in the same way Reetha is used, or you can make use of its powder. Using Shikakai powder or decoction for hair cleansing is up to the personal choice of the user. You can try both ways and figure out the way that works best for you.
