How To Make Chyawanprash?

  • Prishnaparni (Uraria picta)

  • Brihati (Solanum indicum)
  • Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum)
  • Karkata Shrungi (pistasia integerrima)
  • Taamalaki (Phyllanthus fraturnus)

  • Jeevanti (Leptodenia reticulate)
  • Pushkara (Inula racemosa)

  • Amla – 5 kg (fresh fruit)

Steps Involved:

  1. Firstly mix the above said group of herbs in 13 liters of water.
  2. Tie amla in a cloth and hang it.
  3. At the mouth of the vessel, place a stick and keep the tied cloth pack containing Amla such that the pack of Amla is immersed in the water.
  4. Heat the vessel now.
  5. After sufficient boiling, take out the cloth packing.
  6. Take out the Amla from the cloth packing and remove the seeds.
  7. Make a paste out of the boiled pulp part of amla.
  8. Fry this paste with 300 ml each of ghee and sesame oil.
  9. Filter the water and take in another vessel. Add the paste of Amla to it.
  10. Add nearly 2.5 Kgs of sugar to this mixture and then heat it in mild heat.
  11. Upon slow heating, the liquid starts solidifying.
  12. You must take the vessel out of fire when the semisolid state is achieved and stir it well.
  13. Upon self-cooling, add Patra, Twak, Ela and Nagakeshara (50 grams each) along with 200 gram of Tugakshiri, 300 grams of honey, 100 gram of Pippali (Long pepper fruit).
  14. Stir the mixture continuously to get the Chyawanprash.

    What does the reverse impact refer to?

    From a previous page on this site Chyawanprash seems to be highly recommend as a weight gain supplement, but under the side effects on this page I do not see a warning for people wanting to take this herb.

    • Hi Ashley,During summer it is advise to either avoid it or take it in less quantity as it increases the Fire element in the body as per Ayurveda.

      Chyawanprash is a overall a safe herbal tonic. People of all ages can take it safely for their health. In fact, children as young as three years old can take it. However, make sure to reduce the dosage for young children
