Your skin is more vulnerable than any other organ to many of different problems and issues. One of such condition is granuloma annulare. It is characterized by reddish or skin-colored bumps, raised from your skin known as lesions.

But, the common occurrence of granuloma annulare is in a circular or ring pattern on your hands and feet.

The symptoms of granuloma annulare depend on which type it is of: localized, generalized or subcutaneous.

  • Localized granuloma annulare is the most commonly found form. It presents a semicircular to circular shape or pattern. Its diameter may range from a very minute to about 2 inches.
  • Generalized granuloma annulare is classified as that which is present on large parts of the body. It is bound to be commonly found in your arms and legs, sometimes even trunk or central part. This form is itchy and often found occurring mostly in adults.
  • Subcutaneous granuloma annulare is likely to affect young children more commonly. It shows as a firm lump under the skin rather than a rash. The formed lump can be typically not more than 1.5 inches in diameter.

The specific reason that causes granuloma annulare is still unknown. However, there are some known factors that we are not sure of. These factors that might contribute to granuloma annulare have been identified.

It might be caused due to animal or insect bites, tuberculin skin tests, infection, vaccinations or sun exposure.

Natural Home Remedies To Treat Granuloma Annulare

Now you know the probable causes and symptoms of granuloma annulare. If you are observing any of these symptoms, make sure if you have GA. If sure, you may try the following herbal remedies:

1.Use herbal massage oils

Several herbs can work to block a same set of enzymes. Doing this will help you reduce inflammation. These herbs are said to be safely recommended for topical use.

You can mix these anti-inflammatory herbs with certain oils to make a paste or a rub. This, you can massage onto your rash two times a day for a month.

These herbs include turmeric, skullcap or Scutellaria, Ginger, Boswellia, and white willow bark.

For applying it to your skin, make a paste. Take four teaspoons of dried, powdered herb and mix it with four tablespoons of olive oil. You may make more quantity if larger areas are found to be affected. Store this paste in a cool place possibly away from sunlight.

Turmeric will color your skin making it orange. But don’t panic. It is one of the most commonly used anti-inflammatory herbs known.

2.Use avocado paste

Avocado is rich in vitamin E. This reason that likely supports the reported success of this avocado paste. To make the paste for applying, crush an avocado and add enough olive oil. Apply it to the affected areas of skin gently.

Let it stay for 30-40 minutes, then wash the area to clean. You may do this daily for better results.

3.Aloe Vera

Crush some Aloe Vera leaves to make a paste. Apply and massage this paste on the affected areas. Aloe Vera contains a natural gel that causes a soothing It will probably reduce the itching and pain that will be caused by granuloma annulare.

This gel can reach into skin layers deeper. This in turn directly eases the inflammation and improves the healing of your skin wounds.

The gel can also be found at a local pharmacy store as well. Just apply it on the affected area freely and let it soak into your skin.

4.Coconut oil

Coconut oil may be applied to the affected skin or also consumed orally. A typical oral dosage of coconut oil can be one tablespoon three times a day.

It is known to have antiviral and antibacterial properties. Also, it is found to have antifungal and anti-parasitic qualities. This makes coconut oil a very good choice in conditions like granuloma annulare, which are having an unclear cause.

5.Making topical balms

There are numerous topical treatments which were observed to have good results for granuloma annulare. Mix approximately 200 ml of apple cider vinegar with one tablespoon of tea tree oil.

7.Adding Herbs and Spices to Your Diet

Try adding it to your foods by having the root raw, flavoring into recipes, or simply using ginger powder in your rubs and marinades.

You might also add it to your tea or your milk by adding as much as you think in necessary amounts to get a pleasant taste.

Include amounts of turmeric in daily food. Just like ginger, turmeric has powerful, similar anti-inflammatory qualities. It contains curcumin which is one of the active ingredients.

It is considered one of the strongest antioxidants and helps in detoxifying any substances. It will reduce the rash and itching sensations as well as prevents you from bacterial infections.

Turmeric powder may be added to warm tea similarly to ginger. It can also be included like any spice to zest up your foods.

Consume Boswellia serrata on a daily basis. Boswellia serrata is made from a gum obtained from the Indian olibanum It has a very good anti-inflammatory drug property.

This helps in limiting the production of leukotrienes. The suggested extract dosage to be taken is 3-7 grams of the resin per day.

Stop taking Boswellia after 2 to 3 months. The safety if taken for long periods internally is currently unknown. Boswellia topical cream may also be used for treating granuloma annulare.

8.Green Tea

Ever thought about green tea? Green tea has been connected to healing properties if consumed regularly. Try drinking green tea, at least, two times a day.

Afterwards, you can use the filters containing the tea leaves as compresses for your skin. You may also consider taking green tea supplements in tablet form.

Directly applying the green tea to the bumps will smooth them and reduce you feeling of burning sensation. This happens due to flavonoids present in green tea. These are antioxidants that will detoxify any harmful substances and toxins including free radicals.

These can trigger or spread the skin rashes. Green tea is also reported to have an anti-inflammatory This can reduce the irritation of the itchy areas.

9.Grated rheum rhabarbarum

Apply grated rheum rhabarbarum to the affected area. Rheum rhabarbarum has beta-carotene. This helps to fight infection and promotes healing. It proves of much help in autoimmune diseases.

These diseases are systemic lupus erythematosus and RA (rheumatoid arthritis). Because the skin symptoms of these listed diseases are similar, it is a mindset that it may help in granuloma annulare as well.

You can apply grated rheum in the form of a poultice on the rash for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. You may do this 2-3 times in 1 week for as long as required.

10.Yarrow Powder

Make yarrow powder into a paste. Yarrow powder is quite a good drug also for blood purification. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and wound healing qualities.

The use of yarrow powder in the paste form for the lesions should prove helpful. Mix the powder with water in enough quantity to make it into a paste. Let it stay on the affected area for 15 minutes or so. Then wash off the area with mild soap and water.

A 4.5 g dosage of yarrow herb may be taken on a daily It is not clinically validated by any study.


Spirulina is a good immunomodulator meaning it improves your immune system. It is used as a common supplement for related skin This is mainly because it is packed with vitamins, chlorophyll and amino acids.

Due to such properties, this natural alga may help in curtailing the autoimmune reaction that produced granuloma annulare.

A typical dose of Spirulina is 2000-3000 mg daily, usually consumed in 4 to 6 parts of 500 mg each. The effects of Spirulina may be visible even in lesser doses, which are around 800 mg.

It may be taken along with a glass of water or with fruit or vegetable juices. It is advised not to use it for more than three weeks consecutively.


Being a skin condition, granuloma annulare is not to be taken too lightly. If nothing, it may lead to other infections, making your life worse. So try the remedies.
