Can it be harmful not to drink water, or to drink water and to drink a lot of water?

What exactly should be the amount of water that you should consume before, after and during exercise?

Dangers Of Dehydration

If you don’t drink water during exercising then this can cause dehydration to you as while exercising you sweat a lot. So, while sweating you sweat a lot of water.

This dehydration can get you lethargic, dizzy, your muscles won’t get a good workout, and you can get cramps frequently.

Benefits Of Adequate Water

If you take proper water, then there are a lot of benefits of this. If you take adequate water, then you will not feel dehydrated. You can do your exercise well.

Your heart will not face problem for pumping and oxygen, and nutrients can reach easily and efficient if you drink sufficient of water during exercising.

How Much Is Adequate Amount Of Water?

Now, you must be thinking, how much is the actual water that you should drink that will be called adequate.

  • The First thing that you should remember is that you should drink sufficient water in the complete day, little higher amount than you feel the thirst for.
  • Then take 15 to 20 ounces of water 1-2 hours before you start exercising.
  • Drink around 10 ounces of water 15 minutes before you start to work out.
  • Drink 8 ounces of water every 15 minutes of your work out.

However, how much water is needed while exercising depends on age, weight, gender and the intensity of the exercise. Every person needs the different amount of water. Those who sweat a lot needs more water to drink.

For the calculating exact amount of water that your body needs, you can buy a hydration calculator which is easily available in the market which gives you the information of need of water for your body accurately by using your urine.

Tip: if the color of your urine is dark then you are dehydrating, and you need more water to drink.

What If You Drink Excess Of Water?

However, drinking a lot of water does not cause any problem, but the problem can arise if you drink gallons of water as you all know “Excess of Anything is Harmful,” even water as well.

A lot of water can dilute your blood and level of sodium in your body decrease. And this can lead to the problem of hyponatremia. This can lead to a headache, nausea, fatigue and even coma in extreme cases but the chances of this are very rare.

So, drink as much as you can!
