Kanchanar Guggulu is one of the effective Ayurveda medicine for the treatment of hypothyroidism, hormone imbalances, PCOS and joint pains.

Health Benefits Of Kanchanar Guggulu

Kanchnar Guggul has many advantages, which is why it is used widely in Ayurveda for the treatment of many diseases.

It is also known as ‘Yogavahi’ which means that it carries other substances deep into the tissues of the body. It is the scraping property of Kanchnar guggul that makes it beneficial for throwing out toxins from the body and thus fighting against various health ailments.

1. Detoxification And Rejuvenation

Kanchnar Guggul scraps out the toxins from the tissues and channels of your body. In absence of toxins and waste material, the body heals and rejuvenates on its own.

This is possible because of the scraping property of Kanchanar Guggulu.

2. Purification Of Blood

As it is made from the sap of the Mukul tree, it is said that it has a great connection with blood (Rakht dhatu).

With this vital component, Guggulu purifies the blood and improve blood flow in your body.

3. Lowers Cholesterol

When the toxins are removed from the body, the digestive health of the body improves. This further allows better assimilation, absorption, and breakdown of blood cholesterols.1

The cause of joint pain is that there is toxic residue on the tissues that are obstructing the smooth movement of the joints.

Guggul, with its scraping properties, helps to remove these toxins from the tissues and rejuvenate them. Also, it lubricates these tissues helping to have proper joint movements.3

6. Menstrual Cycle

It helps to maintain a regular menstrual cycle by boosting immunity and proper blood flow.

7. Goiter

It is the disease in which there is an enlargement of the thyroid gland located near our neck.

Kanchnar Guggul is widely used for curing goiter. It works by regulating the hormones in the body. It specifically works on the thyroid hormones as goiter and thyroid are interrelated to get relief from the condition. Further, it also improves the glandular functioning to reduce the swelling caused by goiter.

8. Kanchnar Guggul  For Thyroid

There are two types of thyrodism- Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism. When the thyroid gland produces more thyroid hormone, then it is called as Hyperthyroidism. When the thyroid gland produces fewer hormones than required, then it is said to be Hypothyroidism.

Both of these are treated using Kanchnar Guggul. It works by maintaining hormonal balance in the body especially the thyroid hormones. Further, it also regulates the functioning of the thyroid gland to improve the condition.

9. Obesity

Obesity exists across the globe and all age groups. Especially, the youth ranging from 15-30 years are suffering from this problem.

Kanchanar Guggul helps in scraping out fat from your body. It does so by increasing the digestive rate, bringing about proper assimilation absorption of nutrients, proper breakdown of food, and a well-functioning excretory system.4

10. Kanchnar Guggul For PCOS/PCOD

PCOD stands for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is found in women ranging from 20-30 years of age. It is caused due to hormonal imbalance leading to irregular menstrual cycle, facial hair, acne etc.

Kanchnar Guggul helps in maintaining hormonal balance and regulating the menstrual cycle. So, when the menstruation cycle is balanced the PCOD/PCOS symptoms relieve on its own.

11. Lymphatic System

Kanchnar Guggul is very useful for the treatment of swollen lymph because of its decongestant and anti-inflammatory properties.

12. Kanchanar Guggulu For Lipoma

It is known to excellently cure lipoma. It works on Lipoma by reducing the size of Fatty tumor tissues.

13. Nasal Polyps

Kanchnar Guggul is known to reduce the size of nasal polyps and makes breathing easy. It also reduces persistent Stuffiness, snoring, runny nose, etc.

The anti-inflammatory properties of Guggulu work on the airway pathway to remove the swelling and congestion in the nasal cavity and the bronchial track.

14. Cancer

It is used for the treatment of many cancers in combination with other Ayurvedic medicines.

The combination of herbs in its act as a strong anti-oxidant and thus remove the free radicals in the body. These free radicals are the major cause of several types of cancer and in their absence, the cancer cells die.5

15. Sinus Congestion

As it clears sluggish lymphatic system, so it helps in fighting sinus congestion. It also works to reduce the inflammation in the sinus activity and thus provide asymptotic relief to sinus congestion.

16. Uterine Fibroids

It is extensively used for reducing the uterine fibroids.

17. Noncancerous Tumors

Kanchnar guggul is also used as a remedy for non-cancerous tumors. It reduces its size.

18. Guggulu For Acne

Guggulu is a very potent medicine to fight against acne. Acne are generally cause due to impure blood and toxins in the body.

The herb purifies the blood and removes the toxin and thus reduces the occurence of acne giving you a clea rbrighter skin.

Ingredients Of Kanchanar Guggul

This medicine has the combination of many herbs. Following are the ingredients of Kanchnar Guggul:

1. Kanchanar Chhal

It is obtained from the bark of the Kanchnar tree which is scientifically known as ‘Bauhinia variegata.’ It is usually used to regulate the blood flow in our body.6

2. Triphala

Triphala means ‘three fruits.’ It is an Ayurvedic herb that consists of an equal amount of three myrobalans, taken without seed namely Amalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki.

3. Long Pepper (Pippali)

Pippali is the Tamil/Malayalam word for pepper. It is a flowering vine that is cultivated for its fruit, which is later on dried and used as a spice.

4. Black Pepper (Maricha)

Maricha, known as Piper nigrum scientifically is prescribed ayurvedic herb for rejuvenating digestive system.

5. Sunthivarun Chhal

Sunthivarun Chhal is scientifically known as ‘Crataeva Nurvela,’ which means three-leaved caper. It is found in abundance in India and Bangladesh. It is used for discharging surplus water from the body and to strengthen the functions of the liver.

6. Cardamom (Elaichi )

Cardamom is made from two species namely, Elettaria and Amomum. These seeds have the triangular cross-section and have the shape like a spindle. They are used to add flavor.

7. Indian Bay Leaf (Tej Patta)

Scientifically known as ‘Cinnamomum Tamala,’ it is a tree that is native to India. It has aromatic leaves that are used for medicinal purposes. It is known to lower the glucose level in the blood.

8. Cinnamon (Dalchini)

Cinnamon is obtained from the inner bark of several trees of the genus ‘Cinnamomum,’ it is used as a flavoring agent and condiment. In history, it is mentioned that it is also used for medicinal purposes.

Properties Of Kanchnar Guggul

Kanchnar Guggul has some medicinal features that make it so useful in treating diseases.

  • Kanchnar Guggal is an excellent anti-oxidant.
  • It has muscle relaxing properties.
  • It possesses antibacterial properties.7
  • The herb has anti-inflammatory properties.8

Dosage Of Kanchnar Guggul

This medicine can be taken in many ways, which are listed below:

a. External Use

A paste of Kanchnar Guggul can be applied to the body to promote healthy skin, detoxification of tissues, and reduction in swelling and joint pain.

For maintaining oral health, it can also be gargled.

b. Internal Use

As it plays an important role in the digestive process and other systems in our body, so it has to be taken internally. It can be taken in the form of tablets or powder.

Side Effects Of Kanchnar Guggul

As we know, there are advantages as well as disadvantages for everything in the world. It is just that sometimes advantages outweigh the disadvantages or vice-versa. The same applies to Kanchnar guggul.9

Though, it is known for thousands of years in Ayurveda for its benefits; it is necessary to know its side effects as well. So, let’s have a look at some side effects of it!

i. Increased Pitta

It is known for disturbing the balance of pitta in your body, and so it is recommended that we should avoid sour food, alcohol, excessive sex activity, and prolonged sun exposure while we take guggul.

ii. Gastro-Intestinal Effects

The most commonly recorded side effects are diarrhea and loss stools. As it is a strong herb, excessive dosage can lead to gastrointestinal upsets. It is therefore recommended that it should be taken in the small amount or as per doctor’s instructions.

iii. Gynecology

It is strongly recommended that women who are pregnant or on breastfeeding should avoid the use of Kanchanar Guggulu. You may consume it after consultation with your doctor.

iv. Allergy

If you are allergic to Mukul tree or any tree of its family, then avoid the use of Kanchanar Guggulu.

These are most commonly observed side effects of Kanchnar Guggul. Apart from this, the improper dosage of it causes mouth dryness, weight loss, skin disturbances, vertigo, etc.

Also, it is observed that when it is taken with other medicines, it may cause severe reactions.

So, though Kanchanar Guggul is seen as a remedy for most diseases, you need to check whether it will suit your body.
