Advertisement Policy
MavCures mission is to be your most trusted ally in your pursuit of health and well-being. We’re committed to bringing you authoritative, approachable, and actionable content that inspires and guides you toward the best possible health outcomes for you and your family.
The reality is that funding from our advertisers allows us to cover more conditions and provide more powerful experiences, including video, animations, and input from a range of experts. Be assured that we’re absolutely inflexible about our editorial autonomy. Other than input about broad topic areas, we never allow sponsors to influence the content we create.
Latest Updated by the MavCure Team August 2018
Here are the specific guidelines we follow about the types of advertising we accept:
1. We choose the ads.
We maintain sole discretion for determining the types of ads that will be accepted and displayed on MavCure.com. We reserve the right to reject, cancel, or remove any ads from MavCure.com, at any time and for any reason. We will provide prompt notice to the advertiser upon rejection, cancellation, or removal of any ad, along with an explanation. We also reserve the right to determine the appropriate placement of ads on MavCure.com.
2. We will not accept certain types of ads.
We will not accept any ad that is factually inaccurate and/or, in our opinion, in poor taste. Pharmaceutical advertising is only accepted for approved indication(s) as determined by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Advertised products must be in the market and readily available. MavCure will not permit, at any time, the placement of any ad for harmful, illegal or objectionable products or services. Ads must not contain fraudulent, deceptive, or offensive material, including material that misrepresents, ridicules, or attacks an individual or group on the basis of age, color, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or disability. Ads must not be related to alcohol, firearms, ammunition, fireworks, gambling, pornography, tobacco, or the simulation of news or an emergency. All ads must clearly identify the advertiser. Any ad that could be misconstrued as editorial content will be clearly labeled as an advertisement.
3. We clearly distinguish ads from editorial content
In every instance, we maintain a distinct separation between advertisements and editorial content. All ads on MavCure.com are clearly and unambiguously identified as such. Clicking on an ad will take the user to an advertiser’s site or to a sponsor’s resource center on MavCure.com. Sponsored resource centers are labeled as such, with the name of the sponsoring entity displayed.
4. We clearly distinguish between sponsored and nonsponsored content.
From time to time, we seek sponsorships from trusted and credible research organizations, manufacturers, and other service providers. Sponsorships provide the financial benefit to MavCure, but also benefit our users by providing current information on health services, medications, and treatments. Editorial content sponsored by an advertiser is subject to our editorial policy and is reviewed by our editorial staff. When content is provided by or influenced by a named sponsor, we take meaningful steps to ensure our users will not confuse that sponsored content with MavCure’s own original editorial content. Here are the types of sponsored content MavCure presents:
Sponsored content: Sponsored content refers to content that is created by MavCure covering a topic area that is relevant to an advertiser. MavCure has sole editorial control, and no advertiser has any input into the content beyond the broad topic area. Sponsored content will be labeled in one of the following ways: “sponsored by our partners,” “sponsored by,” “from our sponsor,” or “brought to you by.”
Co-branded content: This content is created in partnership with our sponsor and may have a sponsor logo on the page, article, video, or other content. The content adheres to MavCure’s editorial guidelines and may include products, promotions or links to an advertiser’s site. In some cases, a portion of the content will be created, or directed by an advertiser. Co-branded content will be labeled with the sponsor’s logo, as well as the following text: “Made in partnership with BRAND NAME.”
Brand pages: MavCure may host web pages that present content that is created by our sponsors or advertisers. This content is not created by MavCure, and does not undergo an editorial or medical review by MavCure. These pages are hosted as a viewer resource and are not meant to imply recommendations or endorsements. Brand pages are labeled: “Paid for by.”
Native advertising: Native advertising refers to links or ads that link to other content. These links may direct users to other content on MavCure, or may link to an advertiser or sponsored owned page. These links are displayed in the space between paragraphs of a MavCure article, along with the right side of a content page and/or at the bottom of a page below an article or other content. In cases these links direct viewers to co-sponsored content, brand pages or sponsor-owned web pages, such links will be labeled with one or more of the following: “Sponsored,” or “Paid for by.”
Social media posts: MavCure may present advertising messages, advertisements or sponsored posts in its social media channels. These advertisements will be labeled “#ad” and may also include “#sponsored,” “#PartnerPromotion,” or “#HLsponsor.”
5. We clearly distinguish content that is part of a cobranded program.
Occasionally MavCure will work with products, services or organizations that align with our mission. MavCure vets these products, services or organizations for quality and only present what we feel is valuable to and in the best interest of our users.MavCure receives a payment when users purchase, or sign up for the product or service but is not responsible for providing the products or services. Content in these programs is not created, or medically reviewed by MavCure. Any partner content will be labeled with the following language, “MavCure and our partners may receive a portion of revenues if you make a purchase using a link above.” Partner pages may also include a “what’s this” link that takes users to a page that explains the nature of the partnership.
6. We don’t endorse any products.
Although products may appear on our site, under no circumstances shall our acceptance of any ad be considered an endorsement of the product(s) and/or service(s) advertised, or for the company that manufactures, distributes, or promotes these product(s) or service(s).
Corrections Policy
If we identify errors that are material to the content, we will update the content and note those corrections on this page for sixty (60) days after the correction by linking to the corrected version of the original article and note the correction here for your reference. This corrections policy only applies to MavCure original content, including, but not limited to, news, feature articles, or original medical reference material. Any corrections to licensed or third party content are the responsibility of the publisher.
If you believe you have found an error in any of our content, let us know by sending an email to our Customer Service team using the “Contact Us” links in the footer section of our Site
Editorial Policy
MavCure creates original content with reference generally to the following criteria:
Relevance — Issues that could affect how you manage your own health and that of your family. Topics include coverage of breaking health news; drug and product launches, recalls, and alerts; health advisories; and expert commentary on managing diseases and conditions and staying healthy.
Clinical Significance — The latest medical findings published in peer-reviewed medical journals, such as The Journal of the American Medical Association, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Pediatrics, Diabetes Care, Circulation, and many others.
Trends — Seasonal interests, such as “Summer Safety,” “Allergy Seasons,” and “Cold and Flu”; public health awareness, such as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and “Healthy Heart Month”; and emerging health trends, such as the latest in nutrition, fitness, disease prevention, healthy living, alternative approaches, and much more.
Our Content Is Different
It’s more reliable. In a medium often accused of providing outdated and inaccurate information, MavCure stands out as a credible, authoritative source of health information.
Our news and feature stories are based on our editors’ selections of the most important and relevant health events occurring on a given day. Our news articles are more than a short summary of a study or an event. They often contain interviews with the medical researchers who authored them, plus interviews with objective experts who can put the research into context and tell the reader what it means in today’s world.
Editorial Independence — In its reporting, MavCure maintains exemplary principles of fairness, accuracy, objectivity, and responsible, independent reporting. MavCure maintains sole control of its editorial content.
Journalistic Excellence — MavCure upholds traditional editorial principles of excellence in reporting original news for the Internet and in reviewing and corroborating information from other sources. Our content continues to win awards and recognition in editorial excellence and you can see our most current list of awards by checking our Awards page.
Editorial Policy For MavCure Editorial Staff
MavCure is the leading provider of health information services, serving consumers, physicians and other healthcare professionals. Editorial content created by MavCure is free from influence by advertisers and other sources.
Anyone who serves on the MavCure Editorial staff must fully disclose any potential conflict of interest with any sponsor or vendor.
MavCure keeps its Editorial staff separate and distinct from staff dedicated to creating advertising content for our advertisers. No person will serve on both staffs, no Editorial employee will be asked to perform duties on behalf of an advertiser.
The MavCure Editorial staff is charged with the responsibility of providing objective, accurate, and balanced accounts of events and issues. MavCure reporters must diligently seek out subjects of stories or qualified experts to provide commentary. They also seek objective commentary or comment from a qualified spokesperson to provide balance.
MavCure editors strive to provide thorough and honest coverage and share a dedication to the highest professional standards.
Original Content Process
The content that we produce and the news that we feature is determined by our staff of physicians and editors. It contains the latest information from reliable sources including the most important peer-reviewed medical journals, announcements from federal health agencies, and analyses on the latest health trends. Our experienced health reporters talk daily with prominent medical leaders, providing in-depth analyses, updates, and profiles that give our health news and content a perspective found nowhere else. Every original article is reviewed by our staff of full-time, board-certified physician editors.
Each completed story to be published is reviewed by a physician editor for accuracy, appropriateness of medical language, and proper characterization of the findings. The story is next reviewed by an Editorial editor who edits it for style, flow, punctuation, and readability. Finally, the story moves from editing to publishing to the site.
Licensed and Third Party Content
When MavCure licenses health and wellness content from third-parties for publication on our site, the MavCure senior Editorial editors and physician editors review the third-party’s editorial policies and procedures for consistency with the MavCure Editorial Policies.
Educational Collaborations
MavCure works with government and other not for profit organizations or associations whose primary mission is to educate the public on health topics or issues. We use a specific framework of criteria to review and select these organizations and work with them to create or select content within specific topic areas. The content is created by MavCure, reviewed and edited by the third party, and then edited and approved by MavCure’s editorial staff. Just like all of MavCure’s editorial content, this category of content is subject to MavCure’s editorial policy and process for accuracy, balance, and objectivity. In these instances, we place descriptive text at the top of the page to let the user know that MavCure created the content with assistance and collaboration from the organization or association with whom we worked. In addition, the hyperlinked “educational collaboration”, linked to its definition, will be followed by the name of the organization with whom we worked to create the content. We also disclose if there was additional funding by other third parties who have no control over the content.
