White patches also known as vitiligo occurs due to loss of melanocytes. You can get rid of vitiligo by using simple natural home remedies.
You will agree with me on the fact that for every disease there is a cause, and the basics are meant to be learned first.
So, it’s better to clear all the doubts rather than jumping straight to the conclusions. Hence, first things first, what exactly is vitiligo?
Vitiligo is an upsetting skin condition evident by gradual loss of the so-called, melanocytes.
These cells are responsible for producing melanin pigment in the skin layers hence resulting in white patches on our body.
Melanocytes are the cells which produce melanin, and this Melanin gives color to the skin.
So when melanocyte dies or stops functioning, melanin production stops. The result after that is the appearance of white patches on the skin.
But, As per the facts, only around 1.5% of world’s population are agonized by this skin disease.
But that doesn’t mean you will just snub it off as the chances are slightly less. Vitiligo can occur at any age, in either of sex and can affect any part of the body.
The most commonly affected areas are the hands, neck and the wrist. The main discomfort is not the physical pain caused by exposure to the sunlight but the embarrassment and the physiological stress that you might have to face.

Classification of Vitiligo:
The Classification of the vitiligo plays an important role as it widely affects the treatment procedure.
Broadly speaking, vitiligo can be classified into segmental vitiligo (SV) and non-segmental vitiligo (NSV). Among these, the NSV is the common type.
1.Non-segmental Vitiligo
In non-segmental vitiligo (NSV), there is a form of symmetry in the location of the patches.
The New patches also appear over time and can be generalized over the same location. NSV can occur at any age, unlike the segmental one.
2.Segmental Vitiligo
The rare Segmental vitiligo (SV) differs in appearance, cause, and occurrence from associated illnesses.
Also, the treatment procedure is different from that of NSV. It spreads much more quickly than NSV and, without treatment, it is much more static in the course.
It is less associated with the autoimmune disorder, which is peculiar in the NSV. Further, it is treatable, unlike the notorious NSV.
Causes of Vitiligo:
The exact cause for the melanocytes destruction is still not known. There are many research work still going, investigating the exact reason behind this distressful disease. The reason behind the white patches is unknown, ut some of the possible reasons could be due to:
- Immune system disorder, this can result in melanocytes destruction.
- Genetics
- Sunburn, chemicals or stress
- Chemical reactions
- Neural or viral causes
Although, people tend to have some bogus beliefs about this disease like consuming milk straight after fish or onion with milk, etc.
It is not caused by any sort of germs, in fact, the possible reasons behind vitiligo are listed below:
1. Autoimmune Disorder
Recent clues strongly associate Vitiligo with autoimmune component i.e the antibodies present inside the body destroy the melanocytes, causing the distress.
2. Hereditary Factors
Our ancestors have a pretty good role when it comes down to some notorious diseases. The cause behind vitiligo is also believed to be a hereditary one.
3. Accretion Of Toxic Radicals
Several studies suggest that, melanocytes can also be destroyed by the consumption of some inappropriate toxic elements.
4. Nutritional Deficiencies
Many naturopaths believe that intake of improper food lacking nutritious qualities could be the possible cause of the vitiligo.
This could include the white flour, plain white sugar which are very low in the nutritional content.
5. Other Triggers
Researchers also suggest other external causes like injury to skin, sunburn, mental distress and physical illness as possible causes of vitiligo.
While the Ayurveda believes that the cause for vitiligo could be other than the specific Autoimmune Disorder.
According to Ayurveda Shastras it occurs when phlegm (Cuff), Bile (pitta) and wind (Vayu) are not in proportion or one of them is affected otherwise.
6. Deranged Body System
If all three organs are quite unhinged then an acute type of Leprosy will be noticed. Many reasons may be attributed for such derangement body system and they are as follows:
a. Liver Trouble
One of the main reasons attributed to vitiligo is the liver trouble. Chronic constipation, dysentery, etc are the main causes of the skin disease.
Other than these, the growth of worms and the poison released from old stool causes the depigmentation of the melanocytes, resulting in the vitiligo.
b. Inconsistent And Unconventional Use Of Food
Milk with meat, Fish, Brinjal, Sesame, Onion, salt, alcohol and curd (sour) are all examples of unconventional food.
Consuming fish and milk, chicken with curd and honey, salt and sugar, sugarcane juice, etc are considered to be attributes of the cause.
