Now yoga becomes a trend.If you have n’t started practicing it and wondering whether there is an age limit for practicing yoga, then this is must read the article for you.

Yoga is one of the most ancient forms of exercise. It is said that it was practiced by the saints and hermits for good health and to connect to our soul and achieve spirituality.

Yoga has many great health benefits if performed daily. Yoga is an exercise that utilizes every muscle of your body and helps you to achieve great fitness.

Yoga is an exercise which can be performed by people of any age starting from 5 years of age. Even a person who is 90 years old can perform yoga if he still has that kind of flexibility.

But yoga forms and postures differ with the age group. This is because of a simple reason that our body’s capability to work change with the change in our age.

We become weaker when we reach old age. Our muscles lose their flexibility and connectivity. So a little strenuous activity can cause them to tear and cause an injury.

However, performing yoga in the old age is really a good option to stay fit. As I said our bones and muscles grow weaker with age, so yoga can actually help them to gain strength when coupled with the right diet. All you need is a little guidance.

Also practicing yoga during your early 20 and midlife is a great way to keep all the diseases away. Yoga is not a body fitness exercise but an overall fitness package.

So as you see age is not a boundary for yoga. But there are factors which are a boundary to yoga. Let us see what they are-

1. Time

The best time to perform yoga is early morning during the time of sunrise in empty stomach. But if you are not a morning person you can perform yoga in the evening but make sure your stomach is empty.

2. Posture And Breathing Pattern

This is the most important thing while performing yoga. The posture of that particular asana should be perfect or at least nearby as a different posture might not serve the purpose of that asana and give you a muscle sprain or some severe disorder.

Same goes for the breathing pattern. It is the second important thing of yoga. Breathing pattern should be followed strictly as it may cause serious injuries if done incorrectly.

3. Place

Yoga should always be done in a well-lit and well-ventilated room which has fresh air supplies or outside the house, in some park on the green grass. Do not practice in direct sunlight and in the presence of cold air.

4. Awareness

Even though yoga is about connecting to yourself and your soul, be aware of what you are doing. That way you can be sure footed and attain the right posture.

Remember not to force yourself to the limits. You will slowly get a hold on that long stretch your yoga guide does.

Some Restrictions And Precautions To Be Followed During Yoga Are

  • Try to follow only one yoga practitioner as everyone has different ways to perform yoga. You might get confused and end up doing something different and wrong.
  • Do not practice yoga when you are under the influence of alcohol or any type of drug substance which drool out your senses.
  • If you are suffering from any type of medical condition consult your yoga teacher. There is yoga to cure your disorder and some yoga might worsen them.
  • There are no rules for maintenance of diet.
  • Perform yoga on a comfortable, soft, and slip-proof surface.
  • Wear loose clothing so that clothes don’t stop your body from stretching itself out.
  • Remove spectacles or ornaments.

I think now you know the restrictions of yoga which is not at all age or weight. Anyone can practice yoga.

Always start with the beginner’s yoga and move into the complex ones. Starting with the complex ones is foolishness.

For aged people, doing complex postures at the age of 80 is not recommended. You can Pranayam and perform various Mudras.If you have been practicing for years then it is good to carry on otherwise it is a strict no.

So go out and buy those mats and get ready for some yoga!
