What Is Meth?

Meth is a strong stimulant. It is also an addictive drug and is a combination of two basic chemicals in equal amount.  Your doctor will never prescribe this drug mostly due to the concern of human neurotoxicity.2

At low doses, meth elevates mood, increases alertness, concentration and provides energy. It also reduces appetite and promotes weight loss. But at higher doses, it can induce damage to nerves and the brain.Chronic high-dose use causes unpredictable and rapid mood swings, prominent delusions and violent behavior.

Recreational-wise, meth is used to lift mood and increase sexual desire. It is either snorted, injected or ingested. Meth is known to have a high addiction and dependence liability.3

Heavy recreational use of meth can lead to a post-acute-withdrawal syndrome. It persists for months beyond the typical withdrawal period.4

If you are a regular user, you should try to reduce it. This allows getting rid of the meth from system faster. It also helps you to quit it. Then, visit a rehab center for further examinations.

Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Meth From Body

Now, moving on to the ways to get rid of meth from the system. Well, maintaining a healthy diet is a must.

The cleanse also depends upon your fat percentage and your metabolism. As stated earlier, age also plays a role in the amount of time required by the meth to leave the system.5

The most effective ways to take meth out of the system and pass out meth drug tests are as follows:

1. Baking Soda And Meth Drug Test

Baking soda and water solution is the most popular remedy. Some claim that if you consume this mixture around 6-8 hours before a urine test, you can pass the drug test easily. It is because it makes you vomit part of the meth. And the rest gets excreted in urine along with the water consumed.

But, with this method, you might face few side-effects. Baking soda reduces the acid in the stomach and can have conflicts with medications if you take any.6

Moreover, it might cause mild stomach cramps and increased thirst. Thus, you should do it only when required.

2. Vinegar Method Drug Test

Vinegar is another ingredient that is popular for its detoxification properties. It flushes out the toxins from the liver and improves blood filtration.7

Injecting vinegar into the blood with a gap of a couple of hours is also known to camouflage meth in urine. To pass the drug test, take a tablespoon of vinegar mix it in a glass of water. Consume it three times a day before your meals. Start this as early as you can.

3. Removing Meth Using Herbs

There are few effective herbs that work on detoxifying your entire body system and take out the drug via the urine and sweat.8

Nevertheless, the herbs are powerful agents and so you must handle it with extreme care. For the best results use the best organic form of herbs.

  • Black walnut: It oxygenates your blood killing the toxins and thus the meth. It balances sugar levels and burns fats too.
  • Dandelion: It is well-known for use in liver health and function. It stimulates the liver and detoxifies toxins. It circulates blood and helps weak arteries.
  • Cranberry: It is used to treat bladder infections, but it is also great for cleansing toxins from the body.
  • Licorice root: It is mostly used in Chinese medicine. Taking small amounts of licorice root promotes a calm feeling, which alleviates the withdrawal symptoms.
  • Milk Thistle: It is a potent liver herb. It enhances your liver function and helps with the detoxification process.
  • Papaya: It is known for its digestive properties. The enzyme in the papaya has various health fortifying properties. helps break down protein. It also soothes the stomach and helps decrease nausea and vomiting.
  • Peppermint: It cleanses and strengthens your entire body.
  • Pumpkin seeds: It is great for cleaning out toxins. It also has nutrients that your body needs daily.

How To Take Them?

  • When using any of the above herbs prefer making a decoction. Boil 1 tablespoon of herb or its powder in a glass of water.
  • Let it simmer until the solution turns half. Then, consume the mixture at least three times a day to pass the drug test.
  • Along with the herbs take two servings of the fruits mentioned above. This will fasten the process of meth detoxification.

4. Ascorbic Acid

Meth excretion from the body can be fastened by decreasing the urinary ph in the body. In a clinical chemistry study it was found that 75% of the recreational parent drugs in urine are excreted at low ph and only 2% is excreted at high ph.9

It is because the acidic conditions limit the re-absorption of the alkaline drugs in the system. Meth has an alkaline pH value of 9.9.If you take ascorbic acid you can attain forced acid diuresis and thus clear it out fats from your body.

You can find ascorbic acid in citrus fruits or you can even take a counter vitamin C supplement. Your daily dose should be in the range of 90mg-2000mg. Start doing it at least 1-3 days before the test to successfully pass the drug test.

Meth Removal From The System At Rehab Center

This is the most doctor recommended way to flush out meth from your system.10

It takes quite a few weeks but the chances of relapse in this are negligible. The typical treatment at the rehab center can be divided into 2 phase;

i. The Acute Phase

The acute phase is the initial detox phase. It lasts for 7-10 days. In this, the meth supply to the system is cut and you are provided with a healthy diet. You are given a diet rich in fruits and vegetables that increase your metabolism.

An adequate amount of vitamin and minerals is also given. Your intake of fiber increases to increase your excretion rate. You are given a workout to burn your muscles. This is to help you to release toxins faster.11

Some of the common symptoms include intense drug cravings, mood swings, depression, insomnia, agitation with anxiety, paranoia, and hallucinations, fatigue, inability to concentrate, aches and pains.

ii. The Protracted Phase

The protracted phase lasts for weeks or months after the end of the acute phase. This phase goes side by side with the help of a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist analyses your mental health and gives a prescription to help you.12

The common symptoms during this phase are insomnia, cravings, depression, and mental problems. The mental problems are due to the effects of the meth in the nervous system. Meth depletes the level of neurotransmitters as well as its receptors.

Some may even have neurotoxicity or brain damage. If you have this, it will take longer to heal. It can even last long after the treatment too. If such happens, the chances of relapse increase. Here you are a danger to you yourself and your near ones.

There are no FDA-approved medications for meth detox.13 But some prescriptions that can aid during withdrawal are listed down

  • Sedative-Hypnotics – Medicines like valium helps to alleviate anxiety during the initial withdrawal phase.
  • Antipsychotics – Medicines like haloperidol can be used in the first week or two to manage psychosis.
  • Antidepressants – It helps to ease depression that plagues the early recovery period.
  • OTC Pain Medications – Pain relievers can be used to relieve aches and pains14

In conclusion, the truth is that you may fake test but the true riddance of meth can only occur if you attend a rehab. It can be either as an outpatient or as residential depending upon your doctor. Staying clean for a year or so helps you to get rid of all the meth. It also helps you mentally to stay strong.

Some Important Tips To Remove Meth From Tor Body

If you are a mild meth user you can detox yourself in a few days. Nevertheless, there are some tips that you should consider before removing the drug from your body.

a. The main thing is to cut off the source. Stop using the drug as of instant. You may get cravings. Ask your doctor for help. Or divert your mind by involving yourself in outdoor activities. Meditation and yoga is a good method. Give it a try.

b. Rehydration is a must. Drink water 6-8 glasses a day. It ensures the health and helps in toxin removal.

c. Avoid junk foods. Start a healthy diet. Eat an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables. Add fiber to your diet too.

d. Be an early bird. Never forget to get a good night’s sleep. Sleep rejuvenates your body.

e. Exercise daily. Like other body fluids, sweat also removes toxins. A warm bath can heal your body. Adding a little Epson salt to bath ensures removal of toxins too.

f. Try to avoid stress. Getting a massage or visiting a sauna is a good way. It is because stress hormone hinders detoxification.

How Long Does Meth Stay In Your Body?

Well, meth takes some time to get out of your system. However, it also depends on various factors. But, on an average, it can take up to 72 hours.17

The plasma half-life of meth is 12-36 hours. This means that after 12-36 hours of administration, the meth concentration in your blood will be reduced to half.

The complete removal of meth from the system depends on the amount consumed as well as the user type.

Heavy users take more time than others. Addicts have to undergo rehab to get rid of the meth. Anyway, 2-10 days is the usual time for the body to rid meth from systems.18

Yet, the meth is still detectable in urine for 72 hours. Also, the effects of meth only last for 8-24 hours.

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, meth can show up on a urine test for an average of 1-4 days. But it is up to a week for chronic users.

Also, it can show up in a hair follicle test for as long as 90 days. The exact time your body takes to flush the drug out of your body depends on many different factors.

1.Amount And Frequency Of Use

The more drug you use, the longer it takes for your body to get rid of it. The liver can only detox a certain amount of the drug at a time.

Also, the more times you use meth in a day and the higher your total amount of ingestion even if it’s at a lower dose per use. All these slow down the time your body takes to process all of it out.

2.Tolerance

If you use meth every day, it will accumulate in your body. Over time, it will take longer to release it by your system. Heavy addicts have the longest detection time on drug tests.

3.Age

Your age affects your metabolism rate and its ability to release toxins, like meth, quickly from your body. The younger you are, the less time it takes on an average.

4.Health

If you have good health, your body functions properly. It can quickly process toxins. If you are in poor health, it takes longer for your body to recognize the toxins.19 Thus, it takes a longer time to clear them from your body.

Metabolism Of Meth

When you use meth, the body immediately begins metabolism. Your body metabolizes the drug as it circulates in the blood. At first, it converts some of it into amphetamine.

After administration, peak methamphetamine concentrations are seen in 2.6-3.6 hours. Then, the amphetamine metabolite peaks at 12 hours from use.A few hours after use, the body processes both the circulating methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The liver and kidneys clear the substances partially. After this urinary excretion of the metabolites occurs. It is known that up to 50 % of a meth dose can exit the body exactly as it came in. It means that it is not metabolized or processed at all.20

Urinary pH influences the rate of excretion of the drug in the urine. For oral doses, between 30-54% is excreted in urine as unchanged methamphetamine and 10-23% as unchanged amphetamine. If it is an intravenous dose, 7% amphetamine and 45% is excreted as unchanged parent drug.

How Is Meth Detected In The Body?

Meth detection is done by parole officers to make sure that the inmate going on probation are clean. This is done so that they don’t cause unwanted activities. As of now, drug tests have been implemented for employment.

These tests include meth detection test. It is done because employers don’t want to waste resource on non-profit assets. Further, it is also used by rehabs to ensure the patients follow their schedule.

First of all, detection of meth in your body depends on many factors. Your body has its own excretory system. It ensures the removal of the toxins. But, the amount and frequency of use, your health, age etc. affects the rate of excretion.

Some of the common detection methods are given below

1. Blood And Oral Test

It is one of the widely-used tests. The blood test involves testing the blood smear for meth. Whereas, the oral test involves testing your saliva. Both tests can detect meth in its original form.

This test is effective 12 hours from use. The highest amount that can be detected is around 50ng/ml.21

2. Urine Test

Urine carries out toxins from the body with it. And so, it is used for meth detection and other kinds of drug test. The urine test is effective up to 72 hours of use. Here, in this test meth metabolites are found. The highest amount it can detect is around 500ng/ml.22

3. Hair Follicle Test

Your hair is something that grows only some inches over the time. Hence, hair can also be used for drug detection. Meth in hair can be detected even after 90 days of use. It is effective and accurate as well.

Yet, the detection time can increase. It depends on your excretion rate, that is your age, health, consumption frequency etc.

When To Seek Help

If you or your loved one can’t stop using meth. And if you are addicted to it. Remember that the meth from your body will not go away on its own. If you are a heavy user, some concentrate always remain.

If you want to get rid of it, then you must stop using it. It is then only that your liver and kidney functioning can be back to normal.

Early treatment is the best. The treatment can be 1 year or longer if withdrawal symptoms persist. Family help and understanding plays a major role.

It is always recommended to go for a doctor’s help and join a rehabilitation program to recover yourself fully from meth drug abuse.
